CURRENT CAMPAIGN

Sustainability Campaign

Would you consider helping us reach our goal to raise $25,000 dollars to stock our shelves and expand our perishable and nonperishable food storage ability.  This will allow us to better purchase items, handle donations, and better provide for our community.

To meet the current need, our updated monthly budget now approaches $3000 per month to purchase basic items and 7 proteins per family.  One box could cost you $40 at your local grocery store.  Through our partnerships and amazing team of volunteers we are able to offer a family of four a box of food for approximately $18.  $90 helps five families. $180 helps ten families.  A monthly commitment ensures food security for our families going forward.

OUR STORY

#NOHUNGER!

MRFC-CCA Food Pantry AKA Friends Food Pantry is a ministry of Middle River Friends Church in partnership with CCA (Christian Community in Action) serving the communities of Palmyra, Easter Lake, Avon, Carlisle, Hartford

We believe no family should have to choose between paying a heating or electric bill and eating in our community.

MRFC-CCA Food Pantry started in March 2020 as a simple idea to help families during COVID.  We decided to place a “Blessings Table” in our church entrance which would be available during our office hours.  We soon saw that the food insecurity in our P.E.A.C.H Community issue was greater than expected.  The P.E.A.C.H. includes all the towns which make up Carlisle School District.  After conversations with School Counselors, CCA and others the beginnings of what would become MRFC-CCA Food Pantry began to form.

Today we rely on you and many other partnerships to help provide a box of food with 7 proteins, cereal, vegetables, and sides for one week to every family or person who comes through our door.  2022 has been a year of expediential growth.  In May we served about 60 families in June and July about 130 families and in August we served 163 families representing more than 500 grandparents, parents, and children.  So far, with your help, we have never had to turn a family away.

We work in partnership with CCA (Christian Community in Action) who coordinate Operation Backpack, Thanksgiving boxes and Operation Christmas, and the CCA Food Pantry at Holy Cross Lutheran Church by bringing our community’s churches together.  They also provide other financial and community support for P.E.A.C.H. families and individuals in need.   They fund our partnership with Carlisle Fareway Grocery for Milk and Bread Vouchers and other groceries as needed.

We are also a Food Bank of Iowa pantry, which allows us to purchase items at no or reduced cost-saving thousands of dollars and providing items that can really make a difference.  We partner with DMARC United as an affiliate pantry to help with our intake and statistics for the Food Bank of Iowa.  We also have partnerships and support coming from Carlisle Community Schools, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Hyvee, Dollar General, Walmart, MmMm Goodhue’s Produce, and many corporate and personal donations.  To all of you who make this possible, THANK YOU!
